Southeastern Arizona is distinctive and full of wonderful birds found nowhere else in the US. The southern tip of Texas is another great hotspot. The Monterey, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, and San Diego are great spots in California. North Dakota has some terrific summer birding, believe it or not. During spring migration in May, Magee Marsh in northern Ohio is a "must." Florida is terrific, including the Everglades and Ding Darling Refuge on Sanibel Island near Ft. Myers. I agree with the previous poster that you might also identify the birds you are most interested in and use ebird to find where they are most regularly seen.
