When my wife and I retired in 2001 we started traveling world. We saw most of western Europe in the early 70's when I was stationed with the 4th Armored Division in Germany for three years. We started our first adventure tour in 2002 when we went to Machu Picchu and the Galapagos. Our traveling theme was "Ancient Cultures and Exotic Civilizations". In the subsequent 22 years we have visited six of the 7 continents. Our last trip was a river cruise up the Danube starting in Budapest, Hungary, which included Vienna, Austria, Prague, The Czech Republic, and finally Warsaw, Poland in 2018. On our flight home we agreed that we were getting too old and traveling was too hard on us. Staying home in Minneapolis, MN, is just as satisfying, and Road Scholars now satisfies my need to "walk about". Returning to the many places I had already visited in person via Zoom in the comfort of my living room is without question a second best.
Our goal was to be able to say, "I've been there" whenever we watch a move, a documentary, or news program.
We hiked part of the Inca Trail to "The Gates of the Sun"
in Machu Picchu, Peru, in 2002. I love sharing stories
with other travelers and hearing about your adventures.
