Looking for hiking boot recommendations

Are beefy hiking boots worth the extra weight or are trail running shoes good enough? Which do you prefer?

Parents
  • I would travel anywhere with my Keene hiking boots and they are bulky with ankle coverage but they are also like wearing bedroom slippers . I own a lighter weight pair of Keenes for the not so serious terrain
  • Hiker from Colorado-- I ALWAYS wear Keenes.  My many pairs of Keene hiking boots are in both light weight and more supportive (heavier).  A good boot is important for protecting ankles and knees.  Try them on and walk around awhile before buying them!  Keenes are usually more spacious in the toes-- which is  important to me! Happy Hiking!  Come to Colorado!  Smiles, Roxanne
