I was wondering which hiking boots would be recommended for the Bryce Zion trip in July. The temperature can range from mid-90s during the day in Canyonlands, to mid-40s at night. Should I use low-rise or over the ankle boots for day hiking? Also, I've read that Zion can have flash floods during July. Should I get waterproof boots, or will they be too hot?
My suggestion is over the ankle, Gore Tex boots. Temps range higher than 95 some days. Hydrate and sun block. I wore my REI boots for years in Ca, NV, TX, Maine and Costa Rica.
Be alert to your surroundings. NEVER fight a flash flood. The flood wins.
Happy hiking, see you on down the trail.
