Nǐ hǎo! Hello!

I have just booked my first Road Scholar trip to China!
[Classic Icons of China and Yangtze River Cruise April 25 - May 10, 2020]

Is there anyone else out there on this trip?

I am a solo traveler and very much looking forward to exploring China with kindred spirits.

Have you taken a Road Scholar tour in the past? Any insights you'd like to share?
I look forward to chatting with you!

Best regards, Bonnie Janson

Sadly, this tour has been cancelled, along with all other tours to China for the first half of 2020, due to the coronavirus. The State Department and CDC recommend that no one travel to China now. I feel disappointed, yes, but feel terribly sorry for those in China dealing with this epidemic.

I rebooked the "Classic Icons of China and Yangtze River Cruise" for October 24th, 2020. Hopefully, the coronavirus will have run its course by then.

For the nonce, I am still going to get all the vaccines recommended for travel in China. I strongly urge everyone to take this precaution in preparation for travel in Asia. Don't wait until the last minute -- a number of vaccines have a shot followed by a booster several weeks later to be fully immunized. Be safe! Do it now!

    See you in October!

I'm sure you are disappointed but I think you have a good plan! You can mark on your calendar to get your next year's flu shot in September because you'll need 2 weeks for it to be effective. Even traveling to Europe I try to get mine in late Aug or early Sept just to give myself some protection being stuck in an airplane for all those hours!

Thanks for the Flu shot advice! I set up appointments during the next few months to get all the vaccinations required/recommended for travel in Asia in preparation for my now-cancelled trip in April. Although the April itinerary was cancelled and I won't be travelling until October, I will stick to the schedule get them now, as originally planned -- one less thing to deal with come the Fall.
Though disappointed, I am happy that I will be able to go in October. Hope this darned coronavirus peters out soon!
    Safe travels, happy travels everyone!

Hello, I wasn't on the trip you were on. Instead, I was booked on RS The Best of China: Imperial Capitals, Tibet and the Yangtze River leaving for China about a week before your scheduled departure in April this. I, too, am very disappointed that all of the RS China trips were cancelled for the first half of the year, especially as Tibet is definitely a "bucket list" for me. The six dates that RS is offering later in the year for the program I'm taking don't work for me (I was already booked on a 21 day RS program "Art Capitals of the World", which includes St. Petersburg, Paris and London), followed by a crossing on the Queen Mary 2, during this period. Fortunately, RS let me book the RS The Best of China for early 2021 - first program in April 2021. I think RS had done a great job of addressing all issues related to the coronavirus. So, I'm still very excited to visit China and Tibet. Even though I won't be on your trip, I would love for you to post on the discussion boards after you return as there is a very large amount of overlap on the two programs.

I actually had all of the vaccinations needed for China from some travel last year (India and Cambodia) with RS. So, I didn't need any this year -- most of the vaccinations last fairly long (several years), but as always, best to check with your health care provider. The major exception being the flu-shot, which is seasonal (I always get a flu shot, hopefully more people will with all this publicity, especially as the flu is still much more deadly).

    Anyway, happy travels!
