Hi lcMerriam. I had a quick search and looks like all is good, from this article posted 2-3 days ago.

    http://outbreaknewstoday.com/costa-rica-covid-19-slight-increase-in-cases-hospitalizations-and-deaths-continue-to-decline-more-omicron-reported-15399/

I'm on an early get acquainted with Central America, so having 2 weeks in Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa Mexico, 70 miles north of Acapulco. Lots of locals with masks on the streets, and certainly on entry to any store, bar or restaurant. So much is outside as the fronts of all these shops are usually wide open so good air flow.

The article states, from Dec 25, 2021: NewsDesk  @infectiousdiseasenews

The Costa Rica Ministry of Health report a slight increase in COVID-19 cases (1.8%) the week ending December 18 compared to the week      ending Dec. 11. At the same time, health authorities have reported a 15.2% decrease in hospitalizations and a 61% drop in fatalities week        over week.

On Friday, (Dec 24, 2021) the Costa Rican Institute for Research and Teaching in Nutrition and Health (INCIENSA) identified three new            cases of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 in our country, reaching a total of four cases nationwide. None of the three new cases is              related to the minor who became Ómicron’s first find in Costa Rica.

The new cases are a foreigner with a history of travel to Africa and two Costa Ricans with a history of travel to the United States and                 Europe. All the people are stable and have not required hospitalization.

If you've been vaccinated, double and boosted, and follow all the usual precautions especially in closed in or crowded spaces, it should be safe enough given the cautiousness of the gov'ts that relay on tourism.

Another site I checked the other day and the number of cases per capita.in Mexico and CR are significantly below those in the states or Canada, where I'm from. That was insightful for me.

    Hope this helps.

Meet you and the others on Jan 9th.

    Stay safe and keep healthy.
