Does anyone have a pair of binoculars to recommend for Costa Rica? I am not sure how wide of a field of view I want. I am going to go to a camera shop to look for a used pair.
REI "How to Choose Binoculars":
What kind of price point are you looking at? What kind of wildlife? I'm a birder and really like a pair of Zeiss binoculars I got at Costco last summer. They replaced my older, heavier birding binoculars. They are compact so also fit in my purse so I take them on non-birding trips as well. I just got back from Europe and used the often to look closer at paintings in big museums and to look at details in the big gothic churches.
These are 10X25 (10 is the magnification and 25 is the amount of light gathering they do) and were around $300. I don't see that Costco is carrying them this year but do see them on the Amazon website.
The optics are excellent and they are light and easy to hold. Some binoculars are quite heavy both to carry and hold up for a while to look.
I do suggest a binocular harness instead of the neck strap that usually comes with them. The harnesses are usually around $25 and make them so easy to carry. When I am birding or wildlife watching I just put them on in the mornings like I put on my shoes, lol.
