Cuba Birding trip in 2020

Hello, my husband & I will be taking our first RS trip, and we are going birding in Cuba in January. We are looking forward to this trip, to seeing Cuban culture, and to seeing new birds. Some questions: 1. should I be concerned about not getting our visas until we are at the airport for departure? 2. Since meals all seem to be included, it doesn't seem we need to exchange much money except for local purchases of crafts & such  3. Any tips from prior travelers to Cuba for birding?

Thanks!

  • Hi Mary, I am a new RS traveler so I have been reading the discussion boards with great interest. Getting a visa at the airport seems to be pretty trouble-free. I'm not going to get mine in advance. My fellow travelers to Egypt earlier this year who waited to get visas at the airport got a beautiful stamp in their passports! I just got an additional sheet of paper to carry when I got my visa in advance. Even though (most) meals are included in my Cuba trip, there will be taxi expense during free time, dinners a couple of times, entertainment costs, and tips. RS says tips are included, but discussion board conversation seems to indicate that the Cuban guides and drivers deserve additional tipping. That, of course, is a personal choice. $70 USD/day seems to be a guideline for how much cash to bring. I'm going to follow that recommendation. I hope you have a wonderful trip and that all your expectations are met!
