Budapest and Prague

I am traveling to Budapest and Prague in September 2018.  Wondering if others are going on this trip?

  • We are going in October. I’m wondering what others are doing about their smartphones? I am exploring the purchase of an international SIM card for my iPhone 7. Any recommendations?

I'm going on this trip too. Signed up for a Travel Plan with my provider (Verizon); no need for a SIM card and $10/day on days when I use the phone or data outside of wifi spots.
  • Yes! Are you planning any evening events, like concerts, ahead of time?
  • In reply to bonnie040117:

No, we haven’t done that. I guess we’ll just see what comes. Looking forward to this trip!

I'm glad to know that at least someone else is going! This is a very quiet group. We are two retired history profs, living in Santa Fe. We've both travelled a lot, but never to this part of the world. This is our first RS trip, but we figured that RS would be a good bet since the places on the itinerary do not reflect any of our languages! Looking forward to meeting you. Susan

Yes, a quiet group! I live in Albany NY and am retired from consulting to nonprofit organizations and college departments. I now have a "retirement career" running a small nonprofit. This is my first RS trip too, and my first time in Central Europe. I look forward to meeting you too!

I assume that your flight won't be connecting in Philadelphia, right? Bonnie
  • In reply to bonnie040117:

No, we are flying through Minneapolis to Amsterdam and Krakow. We’re getting to Krakow a day early so we can decompress after flying halfway around the world! Santa Fe is a long way from the East Coast. I just found a discussion board for our group—which I got to from the main RS itinerary page. I posted a question about currency—what to take and how to deal with three local non-Euro currencies. Nobody else from our group has poster there yet, but we can lead the way :-).

Have a good flight. See you Monday!

Thanks Bonnie! You too. I am packed and ready! Susan

I see that you live in Albany. My son lives in East Greenbush. I spent time there in September after surgery when I needed to not be alone. They sail and belong to Albany Yacht Club. Do you know it.

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Jackie, I just returned from the Budapest-Prague trip. Were you planning to go?

I am a sailor too, although i used to sail on Saratoga Lake. Sold my boat, sadly, and miss it!

Please let me know when you're back in this area.
    Bonnie

I go on Oct 23rd to four countries. Sorry to have missed you. How did you enjoy your trip and Road Scholar. This will be my fifth trip with Road Scholar.

Hi Bonnie, I guess we weren’t on the same trip! We are currently in Vienna, en route to Prague on Monday. Hope you had a great trip and I’m sorry to have missed you.

I purchased a Vodaphone SIM card at a kiosk in Helsinki for about $5 for a week and then bought a second one. It worked in Tallinn and Reykjavik as well. This was much cheaper than my Verizon plan. I actually used it in an old iPhone 5 and took my new iPhone as well.
