I am almost finished reading the RS list of suggested books on India. I've had a life long dream to take this trip, but after reading the books I realize that it is a new India. I long to see the sites, smell the many flowers, trees, spices, and enjoy the people and villages I learned about growing up, but all the books I've read focus on a modern India in transition, with crowded, traffic laden, environmentally challenged streets columned by large buildings and tech activity, even in many villages.
