Hi fellow travelers!

This is Del and Steve Scott from Port Matilda PA, retired travel junkies who have signed up for the "Stans" in September 2017.  Look forward to meeting other who are going on this trip or have gone previously.  This is our first Road Scholar experience.  Hope to hear from you!

I did this trip but with another company. They are beautiful countries and you will have a ball. Happy travels.

I am jealous!! A good friend of mine -- who has taken several Road Scholar adventures -- took this RS Silk Road trip a couple of years ago, along with the extension to Iran. He loved his experiences and has encouraged me to go to the "Stans" and Iran. So the Silk Road is definitely on my list. Although I have traveled many places, I have only taken one RS trip as yet (Egypt Beyond the Pharaohs in Jan-Feb 2017). It far exceeded my expectations, and I felt totally safe throughout the trip.

From what others have told me, Road Scholar provides amazing learning experiences, and guides travelers safely through exotic locations. The people attracted to go with Road Scholar are well-read, open-minded, very friendly and great companions.

I enjoyed every one of the 20+ people on my trip! I was a "single" but always felt included. (Del and Steve, please look out for the singles in your group!) We had varying abilities to cope with the "active" physical demands, but it was touching to realize this group of strangers began looking out for each other immediately, and assisting when someone needed help. No one complained if the fitter ones rushed ahead out of sight or the slower ones needed more time to climb. (When I decided I wasn't going to make the very steep descent into one pyramid on the first day, a lady I'd only known for a few hours offered to take my camera and took pics for me!). I hope you find you are on the Silk Road with a group as great as that one, and I expect you will.

Hi, I am booked on the Silk road with extension to Iran. I am a single traveler an to tell you the truth I do get a little nervous every time I think about it. this will be my 4th Road scholar trip( Peru, Egypt and China).. Road Scholar exceeds my expectations every time. I don't know how to start a discussion with my fellow travelers?? It would be nice to know them before I left the US.

"I don't know how to start a discussion with my fellow travelers?? It would be nice to know them before I left the US."

You should have a link to a private forum page for your trip. Go to the main RS page, click on your profile. Click on "Upcoming trips". Scroll down a little and on the right there is a blue button that says "Join the discussion". To be honest though, there is very little participation on the private forums. I started a thread for my next trip and altho there have been 6 views, no one has raised their head above the wall to say hi, lol!

There is also a public forum for each specific program. Go to this link discussion.roadscholar.org/.../f Do a search on your program number. I recommend you bookmark it because I can never find my way back, lol!

Good luck with your trip. With things heating up I'm wondering whether Iran will still be a possibility. I hope so as I've heard it is wonderful.

    Pam

I am booked in October.. so do write about it when you get back..I can assure you about one thing .. it will exceed all your expectations . I have done 4 RS trips and each time it gets better.. just got back from China. I am just a little concerned about how cold it will be and how much to pack as it is almost one month with the extension to Iran. Do write about your trip
