Best of Scotland September 1--restaurants

It looks like this trip really will happen.  I'm thinking we need to book restaurants for the nights we don't have RS meals--I've learned in other European places that you can't expect to get a last minute dinner reservation especially in cities.  And Scotland looks to have fabulous inventive food.  Anyone going on this trip interested in joining my husband and me for dinner reservations a few nights?

Thanks for the info about Oban, which is one of the places I was going to book.  Have the waterproof jacket; not the rain pants.  We are doing extra days in Edinburg at the onset.  Now the issue is whether…

I'm not on your tour but have done a similar tour with another company.  On your Day 6, the Mull/Iona day,  I'd wait to book anything for that night.  The day we went the seas were rough and we got back much later than expected.  You might check out dining options in Oban so you've got an idea of where you might like to eat but I'd rely on input from your guide at the time, particularly if there is weather.

I'll add that this is the only day on 11 tours with the other company and 11 Road Scholar tours that I wished I had brought my waterproof pants.  It was June and we were in very heavy rain most of the day. By all means have a waterproof (not water resistant) jacket with a hood.  Umbrellas were useless as it was quite windy and turned them inside out immediately. I also have started using a small cross body purse that can fit under my zipped up rain jacket for very wet days.

If you don't already have your plane tickets, I'd add a couple of nights in Edinburgh.

Fingers crossed everyone's Europe travel plans work this Fall!

Yes, I saw that post about the London trip being cancelled. I got anxious as I've got a trip to France in October and called to talk with a staffer.  She said the concern about the UK trips is there is still a quarantine in effect in some areas.  I looked up Scotland and US is currently an "Amber" country and requires a 10 day quarantine.  As far as I can tell (and I am NOT an expert) vaccination status is not considered. Here's the official Scotland website:

    https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-international-travel-quarantine/pages/red-amber-and-green-list-countries/

If you do decide to call RS, know that I waited over an hour on hold.  I should have hit the "call back" option but did not.  So...if you are going to hold, charge your phone, make a comfort stop, get some water and have amusement at your fingertips, lol. FWIW, I was on hold longer with Delta on an issue with one of my flights.

I hope your trip goes!  And I truly hope you have blue skies for your Mull/Iona day.  Iona was a fascinating place and would have been much better if not for the driving rain, lol.  There was a National Geographic tour there at the same time and they had come from their ship in those little Zodiac boats.  My word...with the waves and wind I was REALLY glad I was not in one of those, lol!  Tours can't control the weather so you get what you get.
