Airport transportation

Is Uber a good idea for a grandma and 13 year old granddaughter, or should we stick with shuttles?  Oakland or SF airport? Thanks

  • I live in Fresno, Ca. I traveled with a couple that live in SFO/Oakland and they use uber all the time.
  • I use Uber all the time. Sometimes they offer credits to new riders when you open an account. I like that you get photo and license plate of driver. Note that most Uber stops are the farthest out from baggage claim. Also some airports do not allow Uber drivers so double check before you leave on trip. I also do Uber fare estimate at home to ensure I am charged the proper amount. Like not having to deal with cash and tips; ends up cheaper instead of saying keep the change. You can also reserve return trip in advance. Am sure a 13 year old can navigate the website and the app easily.

Any recommendations re: airport? Oakland or SF? Oakland looking lower for air fare; a little more for transport to hotel in SF. Thanks.

Either airport fine. Is San Francisco your final destination? If so BART is an inexpensive way to get downtown. The station is in the airport and has many stops downtown.

Thanks- what is BART? Would it work in the wee hours of the morning? will probably need an early flight when returning.

Bay Area Rapid Transit www.bart.gov/.../airport. I think it runs from both airports.

Thank you! Looks that that will cut out a lot of traffic- can get a bus to six blocks from hotel after that. I'm thinking shuttle will take forever due to shared ride and multiple drop offs. Country woman here! Glad I went to NYC last year and gained some confidence.

Depending on the time of the year, SF prone to delays and cancellations. For domestic flights, I prefer using Oakland.
