Hiking or walking

We are doing this program in February, followed by the Cambodia, Angkor Wat extension. From the description, it looks like we really only need hiking apparel for the Cambodian part of our trip, that the Vietnam part is more of a regular sightseeing trip. Would someone who has done this trip please clarify.

  • Hello chrisdon, thank you for your inquiry! Light, loose-fitting cotton and linen clothing are best suited to the Southeast Asian climate. The locals dress informally, but very neatly, and the same is expected of guests. It is polite to wear long pants or skirts when visiting Buddhist temples. Modest, casual, lightweight dress is the norm. Shorts should be Bermuda-length or culottes, as it is not customary to expose bare legs in public. No plunging necklines, tank tops or slinky clothing for women. Halong Bay in January and February can be cool in the mornings and night. A lightweight fleece jacket, windbreaker, or sweater and warm socks is sufficient for the cooler temperatures. Breathable, quick-dry fabrics suitable for humid climate are recommended. Bring a pair of old socks to wear when you have to take off your shoes to go into places of worship. • Hi Rachel, I don't think this answers my question. I know the clothing recommendations from the preliminary package. However, for REAL hiking where one wears boots etc, I would never wear cotton or linen clothing, since it doesn't wick as fast as technical clothes. That's why I was trying to find out how much of this Vietnam part of our trip is actually hiking, rather than strolling in villages, attending cooking demonstrations etc. Thanks
  • Hello chrisdon, thank you for your reply. We have also sent you an email this afternoon listing the itinerary outline which shows this trip does not include any hiking in Vietnam, so the clothing list which we listed above would be most appropriate. We hope you have a wonderful New Year's day and enjoy this adventure in Vietnam with us next year. Best, Rachel
