Single room vs. Roommate

As a solo traveler, do you prefer a single room or ask to be paired with a roommate? Why?

    Oh my word...I would not be willing to sleep on a sofa bed! Nice that you had your own bathrooms though.

    I have taken 3 Road Scholar trips. On all three trips I  requested a roommate to save money.  The first trip my roommate was rather unpleasant in some ways but not so bad that it ruined my trip. I actually got quite a bit of sympathy such as :"Oh, he;s  your roommate I;m so sorry." The next two trips I lucked out and had no roommate assigned to me so got a single room at the double rate.  So if you like gambling or saving money is important to you go ahead and request a roommate - you may luck out and not get one, and if not you may get along fine and even make a new friend.
