When the activity level is too high

Occasionally, I see programs that look fascinating but have an activity level that is higher than I usually enjoy. Should I attend the program and try to challenge myself or play it safe?

Who was the tour leader? I took the Amalfi Coast hiking trip in 2017 and liked the leader so much that I took her Tuscany and Umbria hiking trip in 2018.

Was this the Best of Utah's Grand Circle of Parks, Keep the Pace tour? Were there options for each of the hikes for various fitness levels? It is stated in the brochure?

YOU ARE SOOOOO CORRECT - ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT OTHERS HAVE NOT ONLY WAITED A LIFETIME TO GO ON THE TRIP BUT ALSO WANT WHAT THEY PAID FOR ! - THEY DID NOT - NOT - NOT PAY TO BE CHEATED OUT OF PART OF THE EXCURSION BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE ONLY WANTED A "LITTLE" OF THE EXCURSION.

I have participated in numerous "active" Road Scholar programs...several kayaking, white water rafting, snow shoeing and cross country skiing. On each trip there were some people that were way outside there comfort level and the activities were beyond their physical capabilities. To a person they seemed anxious and miserable and really sorry that they had enrolled.. Some opted out of each days activities where it was possible. On the white water rafting trip there was no opting out. The groups comradery is based on shared activities. I have noticed that the non-participants isolated themselves and so the communal experience eluded them. They didn't get to know us and we didn't get to know them. That connection and and shared experience is the hallmark of a great Road Scholar experience. On the other hand sometimes the activity is new, exciting and somewhat scary. Participating and breaking those barriers, that are mostly in our head, can be exciting, self esteem enhancing and life changing. So, I think the important thing is to accurately figure out which camp you fall into. Know your limits. If it is beyond your physical capabilities do not sign up for it. If your are just hesitant because it is new and outside your comfort zone but you are physically able to participate in the activity and you make a commitment to yourself to go for it and fully participate then by all means sign up.

What if I find myself in between levels--found "Easy Going" too slow, enjoy "On Your Feet", but concerned about "Keep the Pace"???
