I'm slated for a trip to Russia in May; my question is whether to wait for Road Scholar to cancel the trip or just cancel now and lose the (small) deposit. I did contact RS but didn't really get a good answer. Probably best to cancel now, but just checking on others' experiences. Thanks in advance.
Oh, Dear! I just paid for a trip to Cuba and I hope I don't have the same problem if it's canceled. I also paid the deposits for an Asian excursion and a trip to Sicily. I will wait until the last minuteā¦
This is what I can share with you about cancellation based on my own experience. When RS cancelled my 2020 trips, I was given full refund. However, I asked them to keep the money as credit to be used later because I was afraid they would face terrible cash flow problems if everyone wanted refunds, RS even gave me a small bonus for doing this. Then I recently had to cancel my 2022 trips. Because this was initiated by me, I would forfeit $250 for each program unless I transfer the money to another program much later on, which I did. I had to call AON Insurance separately and request refund. For the 2020 trips, which RS cancelled, they were very efficient and I got the refunds very quickly. For the 2022 trips, which I cancelled, unfortunately, it is taking a very long time and required a number of calls to remind them. If you get an agent who seems not to know what he/she is saying, call again and hope that you get someone who is more with it. I find that, in general, the RS staff is very helpful. Good luck!
