Attention Moderator: Sign in issues again...

I started a new thread because I hope a Moderator will see this.

For months many of us were unable to stay signed in to the RS discussion pages.  It was fixed a couple of months ago but as of yesterday it is back again.  I have to go to the main page of RS, sign out, sign in again and then go to the discussion page from there.

So, whatever the IT folks did before they need to do again. Or the duct tape has fallen off and someone needs to go stick it on again!

Thanks!

~Pam

  • The private trip specific discussion boards have disappeared as well. No wonder they are rarely used. I see topics going back at least two years about problems with the discussion boards. Why isn’t this fixed? As I have suggested before, RS should just remove the trip specific discussion link from the upcoming trips pages until and unless the problems with the discussion boards are fixed.
  • In reply to Peggy W:

I have never been able to use trip specific discussion boards. The rare occasion I have actually managed to see one, no body was posting, nor did I get replies! Seems a long term ongoing issue.
  • In reply to Peggy W:

Peggy, I can get to my private forum discussion page for a trip that is upcoming the end of the month. I have it bookmarked but also was able to get there from the homepage for that program. If you are registered for a program they might need to add you to the forum...as if that will do any good, lol! In the spring I had moved my registration fee from one program to another and they still have me signed in and showing as a Participant on the list on that forum. No one has posted so I haven't bothered to have myself removed.

Molly, I do agree with you in that no one ever posts on them. I posted a trial question on my private trip forum months ago and although I've got 11 views, no one has raised their heads above the parapet. I also monitor the public forum for that trip and no dice.

I think it is also confusing because there are both a public AND a private forum for each program. Even on the public forums for departures no one posts. I have done a couple of posts on the public forums for programs in which I am not enrolled but have enough knowledge to provide an answer but wow, those are hard to find. I'd like to be able to go in to any program in Wyoming or Montana and post. I've got extensive knowledge of Yellowstone and the surrounding area but they are listed by program number and I'm just not going to expend energy trying to track down those programs.

I also think it's weird that there is no way to get back to the main Road Scholar page from the forums pages. Has anyone figured out how to do that other than by using a bookmark?

PS, I appreciate both of you joining in the discussion!

Pam, my current issue is a repeat of an old problem that I thought was solved last spring when I was finally added to the discussion board for my Argentina trip that starts in 2 weeks after several contacts with RS. Now the link to that discussion board tells me that the page I am requesting no longer exists. The link for the January Vietnam trip takes me to the old familiar page—“not seeing your discussion board?” Etc. I find it very frustrating that RS doesn’t seem interesting in solving these problems—why offer us the option of discussion groups when they cannot seem to make them function.

  • In reply to Peggy W:

Oh gosh Peggy. That is very disappointing! Especially since you’ve had the problem before and thought it resolved.

I hope you enjoy your upcoming trip! I’m leaving in 2 weeks for France and am very excited!

    PamInIdaho,
I think we already established that we will not be in Paris at the same time. (I'll be there a couple of nights this week and again for several nights at end of Sept and beginning of Oct.) Anyway, I hope we both enjoy wonderful September weather. I'll try to remember to "wave" to you.
  • In reply to GerryL:

Gerry...my plans have changed a bit since I last PM'd you so I just sent you my new Paris dates. Glass of wine? lol!!

We have a two week Bike and Barge - the Netherlands and Belgium - and those who tried were always unable to get into "our" private trip discussion. Two days to go now on the 2-week, still do not see "our" discussion. There are 19 participants (one not able to stay with the group). We are back near Amsterdam and live on Saturday.
  • In reply to PamInIdaho:

Glad you have pointed out all of this. We are two days from the end of "Bike and Barge" trip - the Netherlands and Belgium.
  • Well, today, 9/12, things seem to be working again. My sign-in has held since yesterday afternoon so I didn't have to go thru the rigamarole of signing out and back in. Thanks to the IT folks who must have fixed it.

Jayteaseye, hope you have had a wonderful time on your trip. Not sure why you want to access the discussion page during your trip but it's still aggravating you can't get to it.
  • In reply to PamInIdaho:

Pam: sadly, no fix for me. The private discussion boards that existed for both of my upcoming trip are still missing. The boards were available a week ago. I believe the reason almost no one participates is that access to the forums is so unreliable but RS doesn’t seem interested in fixing the problem. Have a wonderful time on your trip. I leave for Argentina in about 10 days. Peggy
  • In reply to Peggy W:

Well darn, Peggy! Yes, I think you are right about the forums. Too difficult to find then once you're here too difficult to navigate. And I post ALL the time on Trip Advisor forums along with another travel forum. They are all so much easier to work with. So sad....

Have a wonderful time on your trip!  At least the trips are great!

  • This morning (Friday the 13th) I am back to having to Sign out of my RS account, sign back in, click "Community", click Discussions. So, FIVE moves (counting having to go the main RS home page via bookmark to start the process) to get to the Discussion home page. Yikes.
  • In reply to Peggy W:

If people start switching to Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) I bet RS would get off their duff and fix the darn site. I had this issue two years ago when using them for a Northern Lights trip to Norway and now again. It may well be time to consider other touring companies. There is just no excuse for service this bad. John
  • In reply to volman1975050112:

I've not done an OAT tour but based on the complaints on some of the forums on Trip Advisor (terrible customer service after they have your money, no follow up, etc) I won't be going with them. At least the Road Scholar programs are good even if they can't get their act together for the forums. Although aggravating, the forum issues are minor compared to the quality of programming.

And....in case a moderator looks at this thread or sees this in their "feed" - still as of today having to sign out, sign in and then go to the forums again.
