Have you ever purchased the RS Trip Protection Plan?

Would you recommend purchasing a trip protection plan? Has it ever come to the rescue for you during a program?

I just purchased insurance for an Ireland trip and it was only $34. I only really buy it for medical issues but it does cover more. I have used it occasionally but have been lucky never to have used medical. Worth the peace of mind but I will check my credit card in the future.

Hello, if you took out the optional trip cancellation insurance you should be able to ask Aon Affinity directly about what they need from you. Their number is 877-846-8806. Also if you already know what you need to provide them with I'd recommend working directly with your insurance company, which appears to be Medicare, and get the necessary paperwork from them to submit to Aon Affinity. I'd recommend doing this by email as it's faster. Best of luck!

Yes -- have always purchased it. Used it once with no problems. Trip to Isle Royal was extended a day because of storm -- We were reimbursed for cost of the extra night on the island

First of all, not all Medicare policies are the same. I have a Medicare Advantage policy that covers emergency care worldwide, so check your policy carefully for that. For cancellation I am covered by my credit card, United Explorer Visa, as long as I use that card to pay for my trip. Previous to having that card I always used insuremytrip.com. As for RS insurance being expensive, I think that is because RS, as well as other tour companies, only offer a higher-cost policy that includes coverage for pre-existing conditions. If you do not have a pre-existing condition then a basic policy through insuremytrip.com is sufficient, and much less expensive. Finally, to the traveler who had to pay 110 euro for medical care in Europe, if you are not reimbursed by Medicare at least you can gain comfort from the fact that medical care in Europe is so much more affordable than in the US.

If the trip costs more than $1000 I purchase insurance on domestic trips. Always purchase for overseas trips.

RS insurance will only cover you for the length of your trip. (unless you go directly to their insurance company for a - pricey - extension)
We usually spend several days before and after a RS trip vacationing, so use insuremytrip for a better deal.

BTW - insuremytrip does offers policies that have pre-existing condition waivers. Usually have to buy the policy within 2 weeks of deposit. But you can get just coverage for the amount of your deposit, then increase the amount after you pay the total cost.

I have never purchased RS insurance but there were at least three participants that used the insurance during a trip and were VERY pleased. RS takes very good care of participants.

I went on several trips without it, but registered for a trip a year or so ago where I purchased it. A short time before departing, a micro-burst of tornadic activity brought a humongous tree down in my yard, with part of it clipping my house, breaking a window, and puncturing the roof. I could not leave for a trip with my house in this condition. The trip insurance refused to pay stating that my house would have had to be "totally unlivable" to qualify for reimbursement. The agent said I could "petition" anyway, but I did and my claim was denied. I was still able to get a partial refund from RS, but lost both the money I paid for insurance and the rest of my trip tuition.

I purchase insurance when I am traveling cross country or internationally. Last year I looked on the internet and compared many insurances. I decided to purchase Roam Right. Then I broke my leg and had to cancel the trip. Roam Right paid out so I was grateful to have purchased it.

Thank you for the heads up re: the Chase card which we have. With the change in RS insurance I was looking for alternate ways to insure, checked out the details of the Chase card and it looks like pretty good coverage.

The first RS trip I went on was to Cuba last year. I bought the insurance. The flight back from Havana to Miami was delayed and meant I had to spend an extra night in Miami. The trip insurance covered the cost with minimal paper work. I'm going to Ireland in a few days with RS and have purchased insurance for that trip as well. Hope I don't have to use it.
