At Road Scholar, we’re always on the lookout for new ways for our participants to learn about the world. Do you have an idea for a new Road Scholar program? We created this discussion forum just for that purpose, and we’d love to hear from you. We’ll read every suggestion posted here, though we’ll only contact you if we need more information.

I actually started creating a list of resources (books & websites) for a trip I'd like to go on with RS. No suggested title, but it would take participants to many of the sites around the UK where important discoveries were made that contributed to our understanding of evolution. Darwin's home, of course. Lyme Regis, to see where Mary Anning found ancient marine animal fossils. Trilobites. Geology. Maybe even the Piltdown Man hoax. I am eager to sign up for this trip.

The Gullah culture! It spans from NC to GA and is prominent throughout the sea islands of S.C. Coastal Carolina University studies this extensively and would perhaps form a good partnership with road scholar. Coastal explores the roots of this culture even to africa, and has professors who hail from the African roots of Gullah. I have learned that Michelle Obama 's grandparents were Gullah people from the sea islands of South Carolina.

The 2019 Laulupidu Song Festival in Tallinn, Estonia. 30,000 vocal performers in choirs from all over Estonia and the world perform in a Hollywood Bowl-like amphitheatre to a crowd of 70,000, singing a multitude of different genres over the course of several days. There is also a stadium-sized Folk Dance Festival included in the celebration. Tallinn is a fascinating destination in its own right, with much to see and do, including the outstanding Kumu Art Museum and the Open Air Museum, with dwellings from earlier ages reconstructed in an expansive rural park. There's lots of YouTube videos of Laulupidu online- here's a promotional one: www.youtube.com/watch

I really wish RS would schedule a trip to see behind the scenes at animal sanctuaries here in the USA. The elephant sanctuary https://www.elephants.com/ www.ringlingelephantcenter.com/ www.tripsavvy.com/exotic-wildlife-sanctuaries-in-florida-1513520 I want to go behind the scenes and learn about these wonderful animals. How can I help preserve them. I do not want to see any animal tortured. I am not a tourist who just wants pictures. What is the future for elephants? tigers? rhinos? they are all going extinct. can I help save them?

The Mississippi Blues Trail lead by knowledgeable guides would make an interesting trip. Blues music is the foundation and root strata of all uniquely American music especially jazz and rock. This trail is follows some of the key locations and persons who developed this music including Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and B.B. King's birthplace, to name but a few. Here are some links for more information: http://msbluestrail.org/ and en.wikipedia.org/.../Mississippi_Blues_Trail

Did not mean to insult you. Just not interested in a tour of the south although I enjoy New Orleans jazz.

You advertise Road Scholars age adventurously and I'm sure their brains do but not all of their bodies age as well. I went on 3 of your trips and planned on taking many more but then developed back trouble so can't stand for more than a few minutes without a walker. Your "easy" trips sound pathetically boring and I think there has to be someway more "adventurous" trips could be altered for slightly physically challenged retirees like me. I have plenty of money and time and interest and am searching for a travel company who has the business savvy to go after this huge market that gets bigger every year.

An orthopedist once suggested to try double walking sticks as I have 2 artificial knees. Walking is okay for me, but sometimes the guides walk faster than my knees can go. I never tried the walking sticks as there did not seem to be any practical way to carry my purse. Maybe a river cruise might suit you better, and the ships dock right in town or very close.

There is a British tour company that offers train tours east of Dresden, Germany. Seems there are several old steam train routes that go into the Erzegebirge area. This was once the treasure mountains area of Germany, but when the valuable ore ran out the people switched to woodworking. They make wooden things that are quite different from Black Forest wood carving. They make scenes and those tiered kind of like pyramids that turn by the heat from candles (or electric lights). The tours do include a visit at one of these craft villages. I think Road Scholars might find a trip on one of these old trains just as interesting as do older Brits and Germans.

Interesting that you should suggest a program around animal sanctuaries. I volunteer at great ape sanctuaries -- mostly at two in Florida -- and was just thinking the same thing when I was there on my annual trip last month.
